A group of teachers at the high school came up with an idea. We have struggled
over the years to help our students understand what 6 million looks like, the
approximate number of lives lost in the holocaust. our idea is to collect
6 million pennies. We need your help.
Once the money is raised, it would be $60,000; we would send the money to two
charities. One organization would be Safe
Haven Museum and Education Center located in Oswego, New York. This museum
is dedicated to keeping alive the stories of 982 survivors of the Nazi regime
who came to Oswego, New York, during World War II. The other organization we
would send money to is UNICEF. They are an
organization working for the survival, development and protection of children
everywhere.
Please send us your pennies; 6 million pennies is a lot of pennies! This
project will be used to educate our entire school district. Our elementary
students will be learning about giving to charities. Our middle and high school
students will be learning about the 6 million lost in World War II and the
continuing genocide in various parts of the world.
Pennies can be brought to the main office in each building or dropped off at
the places named on the Drop Sites page.
