Senior
High Concert Band
The senior high band is a credit-bearing course that can be used
to fulfill the arts credit requirement for high school graduation.
Scheduled to meet one block every other day during the year, the
group presents four public concerts annually.
In addition, the band presents educational programs at
Fairley and Kenney Elementary schools, holiday programs for senior
citizens and community entertainment when asked.
Students enrolled in the band program have the opportunity to
audition and participate in All-County, Area All-State, Conference
All-State and New York State School Music Association Solo
Competition for increased recognition.
The following school organizations are also available to
students enrolled in instrumental music:
Jazz
Band
Exploring the history of American jazz music, the Senior High
Jazz Band plays a variety of musical styles during the year,
including swing, rock, ballads, blues, and pop.
Performances are given on the Senior High Band Concerts and
for community organizations as well as for the Award Assembly.
Rehearsals are held after school on Monday and Thursday before
school. Students not
enrolled in the band may audition if interested.
Marching
Band and Color Guard
Beginning in March and performing throughout the summer, the
marching band and color guard are the most visible instrumental
music organization in the school. Open to students in grades 7-12,
the marching band performs at local field day parades, the Oswego
Fourth of July parade, the Canastota Boxing Hall of Fame parade and
the State Fair. In
addition to the practice and performances an annual trip to Darien
Lake is planned in August. During
the summer of 2001, the members attended the Drum Corp International
quarter-final competition in Buffalo prior to a fun filled day at
Six Flags.
