Accelerated Spanish
8/Accelerated French 8: (1 credit)
This is an advanced
first year course in which the curriculum for two years is
condensed into one intensive course. One unit of high school
credit is earned. Students are placed in level one course.
Students are expected to complete three units of Spanish/French.
Students for this course are recommended based on their academic
performance during seventh grade. Highly motivated students will
be most successful.
French I Regents (1
credit)
This is an
introductory language course. Students begin to prepare for the
New York State Comprehensive Regents exam by using French in
everyday situations. Students begin an extensive vocabulary of
words and short phrases. The areas stressed are listening,
writing, reading and speaking, etc. Cultural differences are also
highlighted. A multi-media approach is used: films, audio tapes,
video recordings, etc. All
students must pass this course and the final exam to earn a High
School Diploma.
Prerequisite:
Successful completion of Intro to French 8/course and final exam
French II Regents
(1 credit)
French II is a
continuation of French I with more emphasis on reading and
conversation. Students work on simple dialogues and develop skills
in speaking and writing in order to be able to express themselves.
A French reader is used to introduce students to French
literature. It is expected that students taking French II will
continue in the sequence, and take the Regents exam at the end of
French III.
French III Regents
(1 credit)
French III is a
course that stresses preparing the student to take the Regents
Exam. The areas of listening, comprehension, writing, reading
comprehension and conversation are emphasized. This course may
also include a trip to Quebec City. Students should be able to
function in the language in everyday situations. The
N. Y. S. Comprehensive exam is the final exam. Students must pass
the exam in order to use Language for a Regents Diploma with
Advanced Designation.
Spanish I Regents
(1 credit)
This is an
introductory language course. Students begin to prepare for the
