The goal of this activity is exploring and experiencing how people can
solve technological problems by using a formalized problem solving
“system.”
Finding solutions to problems involves the process of
designing. Students will use the problem-solving model to help them
design and construct water rockets using a plastic soda bottle as the
body and various other materials.
Students will develop plans, including drawings
with measurements and details of construction, and construct a model of
the solution, exhibiting a degree of craftsmanship.
In a group setting students will test their solution
against design specifications, present and evaluate results, describe
how the solution might have been modified for different or better
results, and discuss tradeoffs that might have to be made. |
