Voucher requests

  1. One of the new Fairley teachers placed a request for support to purchase learning games for her room. This sparked discussion about how many games people have and that maybe parents would donate gently used games for the cause. This sparked discussion about the opportunity to pair this with a Family Game Night. Members thought a family Bingo night would be great and that the “cost of admission” could be the donation of a gently used or new game for the school. Members thought the date of January 17, 2008 would be ideal. Lisa Phillips will begin coordinating this event. Home and school will sponsor refreshments.

  1. Battle of the Books. Roseanne presented a request for HandS to sponsor the purchase of books for this event. Kids grade 3rd-12th can participate.

  1. Roseanne presented a request for HandS to support the ABC/123 Math Program to be held 11/7/07.

  1. Request made for HandS to provide $46.50 for refreshments for the Mother Daughter Night to be held 11/14.

  1. During last years HandS sessions, the committee approved support for $2000 for the lunch program to embark on a program called: “ Eating Through the Alphabet”. The programs goal is to increase exposure to the kids to health and diverse food choices. A voucher has been submitted to begin spending some of the funds. The monies will go to sponsor 5th grade students from Central Square to come and perform a play they designed abut this issue.

Secret Santa

Lisa Phillips and Michele Baker still coordinating the event this year. Open discussion about event and location. All agreed KMS still reasonable place to have it. Lisa commented that it is difficult to have it at KMS with open shopping format for the idle school kids during their lunch etc… . Rob Bersen agreed that this approach creates too much chaos and will work with Michele and Lisa to discuss alternative ideas, such as having the event over two days and assigning kids in an orderly fashion.  Further discussion to occur. Event to be held 12/7/07

To follow-up at next meeting – event date 12/7/07

Administrator Updates/Events

Fairley: (School liaisons: Janice Scott and Meg Welling)

  1. The school store is requesting HandS to oversee activities. As such all financial responsibilities will fall under the auspice of HandS. However, all monies raised will be donated back to the Student Council at Fairley to use as they deem necessary. Treasurer report will reflect this new activity and clearly document all in’s and out’s between the school store and HandS. Again, all in’s will be donated back to Fairley Student Council.

  1. Carri Waloven – Fairley Adminstrative Intern is requesting parent participation on a Parent Involvement Policy Committee. Interested parties please contact her at: 564-7945 x3201. This was presented at last meeting and some HandS parents did contact Carrie.

KMS: (School liaison: Lisa Magnarelli)

  1. Rob Bersen announced that Nov 14, 2007 is National Global Information Systems Day (GIS) being organized and designed by teachers – Rupert and Jones. This is a day for kids to use information technology in mapping exercises.

HS: (School liaisons: Bonnie Newton )

  1. Patrick Keefe – presented an initial heads-up about the potential for a request for wireless microphones. Committee members have always supported opportunities to improve the stage equipment at the high school but inquired about the larger long term plans that had been presented last year. At that time, HandS already committed support but have not been contacted since. Patrick to investigate further.
  2. The high school underwent a “lock-down”, where the police came to school for a search. The proceed went extremely well and now contraband was found. Great Job.

Fall fundraiser Genevieve or Cherrydale

All products ordered by a student/family will be shipped to their home for distribution. Home delivery makes it much easier for all involved. At the end of the event, an assessment can be made as to which company we go with in the future or continue to do both.

Materials to go home with students 9/28. Sale runs from 9/28-10/9.
